This summer, Wayne Smith of Daddy Bear Grills is hosting a series of immersive live fire cooking experiences in the heart of the woods. Set in his private Kent woodland, Liz's Yard, these full-day classes invite you to master the art of cooking over open flames, from lighting your own fire to preparing a feast using traditional live fire techniques.
We're proud to champion this new chapter in live fire cooking, one that brings people together around glowing embers, hand-built fires, and unforgettable food. These woodland fire cooking classes are all about flavour, tradition, and getting stuck in.
A Spark That Started It All
For Wayne, it all began with the comforting scents of his mother Liz's home kitchen, where fire, flavour, and family came together daily. Those early memories fuelled his passion, which only grew stronger over years spent camping, experimenting, and barbecuing.
Today, that spark lives on through Daddy Bear Grills, a brand shaped by fire and friendship, and brought to life through cooking experiences like no other, with Kadai at the very heart.

Step Off the Beaten Path
These aren't your average barbecue lessons. They're immersive, all-day adventures in the woods.
You'll start the day with breakfast cooked over fire and a coffee in hand, before diving into a full fire-building masterclass using birch bark, fat wood, and time-tested techniques. Then it's time to cook, really cook, learning how to manage flame, coals, and wood to bring out the best in every ingredient.
Expect Argentinian-style Asado beef, cedar plank salmon, whole joints of pork belly slow-cooked over open fire, and flame-seared chicken shawarma wrapped in handmade flatbreads. This is real fire cooking: raw, rustic, and incredibly rewarding.
