Twenty years ago, an idea was sparked, quite literally. What began as a simple moment of warmth around a traditional Indian Kadai in Rajasthan has grown into a movement that has transformed gardens across the UK. From the very first fire bowl at RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2005 to today's extensive range of over 70 award-winning fire bowls and accessories, Kadai has spent the last two decades pioneering live fire cooking, craftsmanship, and community.
This year, we're marking 20 years of Kadai, two decades of gathering around the fire, cooking over open flames, and sharing good food in great company. To everyone who has brought a Kadai into their home and made it part of their outdoor cooking experience, we appreciate your support and the stories you've shared along the way
From One Fire Bowl to Thousands
The Kadai journey began with a single repurposed cooking bowl brought back from India by our founder, Christo. Inspired by the rich history of Indian craftsmanship, he saw an opportunity to give these beautiful, handcrafted vessels a new life, not just as cooking tools, but as centrepieces for gathering, sharing, and celebrating.
What started as a small collection of Original Kadais soon grew into a movement. Garden lovers, home cooks, and outdoor enthusiasts embraced the concept of a fire bowl that could be both a barbecue and a focal point for social occasions. Over the years, Kadai has introduced versatile accessories, perfected the barbecue fire pit combination, and remained committed to the art of live fire cooking.
Craftsmanship That Stands the Test of Time
At the heart of Kadai is a deep respect for heritage and skilled craftsmanship. Each Kadai fire bowl is handmade using traditional techniques, honouring the original methods used by artisans in Rajasthan. Whether it's a reclaimed bowl, a newly handcrafted design, or one of our versatile barbecue sets, every piece carries with it a story—a legacy of craftsmanship, culture, and creativity.

A Community Built Around Fire
Over the years, Kadai has become more than just a product, it has become a community. From garden gatherings to live fire feasts, the joy of cooking over flames has brought together friends, families, and fire enthusiasts alike.
We've been fortunate to be part of countless stories, from weddings and celebrations to cosy winter evenings and summer barbecues. Every shared meal, every moment spent around the warmth of the fire, every new recipe tested on a Kadai is a testament to what we stand for: fire, food, and friendship.
Looking to the Future
As we celebrate 20 years, we're looking ahead to what's next. The world of live fire cooking is evolving, and we're excited to continue bringing new ideas, designs, and experiences to those who share our passion.
One thing, however, will never change: Kadai is about more than just fire bowls. It's about the moments created around them, the connections made over food, and the timeless tradition of gathering around a fire.
